HIS NAME IS JESUS

HIS NAME IS JESUS! Advent
Emphasis on the Incarnation.
Matthew 1.18-25 and John 1.14

18-25: Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary
had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with
child from the Holy Spirit. (19) And her husband Joseph, being a just man and
unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. (20) But as he
considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream,
saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is
conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. (21) She will bear a son, and you shall call
His name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (22) All this took place
to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: (23) Behold, the virgin shall
conceive and bear a son, and they shall call His name Immanuel.” (which means,
God with us.). (24) When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord
commanded him: he took his wife, (25) but knew her not until she had given birth to
a son. And he called His name Jesus.

I John 1.1-4: That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have
seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning
the word of life- (2) the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and
proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us-
(3) that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have
fellowship with us, and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus
Christ. (4) And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

John 1.14: And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we
have seen His glory, glory as of only the Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

INCARNATION: the act of God the Son
whereby He took to Himself a human nature.

I John 4.1-2
provides a litmus test, a test for truth when we come into contact
with another spirit:
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether
they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. (2) By this you
know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that JESUS CHRIST HAS COME IN
THE FLESH is from God.

Same in II John v.7

Martyn Lloyd Jones: True Redemption always points back to the Incarnation.
Hebrews 2.14: Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, He himself likewise
partook of the same things, that through death might destroy the one who has power of
death, that is the devil,

18: Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had
been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child
from the Holy Spirit.

v.16 And Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born,
who is called Christ:

(19) And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame,
resolved to divorce her quietly. (20) But as he considered these things, behold, an
angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not
fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy
Spirit.

Leviticus 20.10: If a man commits adultery with the wife of
his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

“Joseph,
son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife: to take: in the
greek translation is
“to bring her home”

NO BREAKING OF A
COVENANT, BUT THE FULFILLMENT OF THE GREATEST COVENANT. DO NOT FEAR
BRINGING MARY HOME, BECAUSE IN THIS, I AM ABOUT TO BRING ALL HUMANITY
HOME, BACK TO THEIR GOD.

(21) She will bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for he will save his
people from their sins.” (22) All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by
the prophet: (23) Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call
His name Immanuel.” (which means, God with us.).

Acts 4.12: There is no other name under heaven by which men must be saved.

(24) When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him:
he took his wife, (25) but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he
called His name Jesus.
